Our Classrooms

2016-17

Technology: AR

Accelerated Reader (AR) is used by schools for its positive effects on reading fluency and comprehension and the impact it has on general reading achievement. Bell Intermediate Academy students and staff rely heavily on the AR program to help drive reading choices. With the help of their teachers and the library staff, students at BIA are expected to use data from the AR program to read books at their reading level. AR will also make up 10% of student grades in English/Reading, so students will be expected to always have a book and to read 30 minutes at home every evening.

Technology: Inspire

INSPIRE is a free resource available to all Indiana residents who have Internet access and will be the main electronic research source used at Bell Intermediate Academy. INSPIRE is Indiana's Virtual Online Library. INSPIRE is a collection of online academic databases and other information resources that can be accessed at school and at home. INSPIRE includes full-text magazine and journal articles, websites, pamphlets, images, almanacs, full-text historic newspapers, multimedia, library catalogs, and much more. In most cases, INSPIRE provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts of all articles that appear in every periodical with the exception of some newspapers. Only letters to the editor, advertisements, and some images are excluded for copyright reasons.

Technology: Skyward Family Access

In an ongoing effort to keep parents informed about their student’s information and grades, the staff of Bell Intermediate Academy would like to encourage parents and students to login to Family Access by Skyward. Family Access is a secure Internet-based website that will allow users to easily track everything a student does while at school. Among other things, this new service will allow parents and students to view their attendance, grades, schedule, food service balance, progress, assignments, and emergency information.

Technology: Google

All students will be given Google logins and passwords that correspond with the tech protocol of the MSD of Martinsville. They will be given training on Google basics such as creating a Google Doc and sharing with teachers and classmates. Some teachers will also be utilizing Google Classroom with their students.
