Our Marching Artesians performed at the Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Championships on Friday,
November 10 th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This year’s championships included 100 bands from 23
states.

On Friday evening, each band received a plaque for their hard work and skills during their performance. Drum
Major Julia Rito accepted the award on behalf of our 72 member band.

Marching Band Director Ken Belt stated “I am extremely proud of the students and their wonderful
performance at BOA Grand Nationals this past Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium.  They represented both Martinsville
HS and the community of Martinsville in an exemplary manner, both on and off the field.”

Marching Band Visual Assistant Michele Mathews stated “I was honored to be asked to help with the
Marching Artesians this year. I had not only been a member of the band when I moved here my junior year
(1985-87), but I had been on the staff before when Frank Battaglia was here from 1990 to 1995. It was a
bittersweet year for me. If my son had stayed in band, he would have marched as a senior so it was nice to be
a part of the band.

The band had some obstacles throughout the season, but they overcame them and never gave up. I am very
proud of what the band accomplished this year.”
