For Immediate Release
Morgan County, IN- The MSD of Martinsville has hired an additional resource officer to work on district campuses for the 2018-2019 school year. The district will now have a total of three resource officers: one located full-time at Martinsville High School, one located full-time at John R. Wooden Middle School, and 1 stationed between the elementary schools and Bell Intermediate Academy.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the City of Martinsville, the Martinsville Police Department, and the MSD of Martinsville was approved at the district’s Board of School Trustees’ meeting in July. The MoU states that the City of Martinsville and the Martinsville Police Department will allow off-duty police officers to be hired by the district as resource officers and still be considered Martinsville City Police.
The initiative to hire a full-time resource officer for Martinsville High School began as a collaborative effort between MSD of Martinsville Superintendent, Dr. Michele Moore, and MHS Principal, Dr. Nick Sears.
“We believe the addition of a third officer strengthens our school security through visibility and is another great partnership with the city,” stated Dr. Nick Sears, principal, Martinsville High School. “Student safety is critical in all we do, and students perform better academically when they know they are safe.”
