Important Message from the MSD of Martinsville

Good morning,

We would like to thank all MSD of Martinsville staff, students, and parents who contacted the school administration regarding a continued series of ongoing generic social media threats impacting several neighboring schools and schools nationwide. Your vigilance and concern is greatly appreciated.

The MSD of Martinsville is committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for students and staff. While the recent threat mentioned “MHS,” it did not specifically mention “Martinsville.” Several MHS schools across the State, including neighboring MHS schools, have received the same threat. We take all threats seriously, investigate them thoroughly, and adhere to our safety protocols to protect our students and staff.

Please be assured that the MSD of Martinsville Police Department, along with local law enforcement partners, follow best practice procedures when addressing a threat toward student and staff safety. This includes:

  • Taking all threats and rumors seriously.
  • Investigating the credibility of all threats and rumors.
  • Precautionary measures to ensure safety during the investigation period, such as heightened security.

It is crucial for the safety of our schools that we follow the “See something, Say something” guidelines. The MSD of Martinsville urges everyone to report any threats and/or rumors directly to the school administration, police, and/or the anonymous reporting system (STOPit) on the District website, rather than spreading the information on social media platforms.

Thank you.
