MSD of Martinsville is Officially Announcing the Construction of a New Elementary School Slated for the 2027-2028 School Year

General Information

Q: Why is the MSD of Martinsville building a new elementary school?

A: The new school will provide a modern learning environment for students while reducing redundant costs associated with maintaining multiple aging buildings. The district is consolidating elementary schools to improve efficiency and long-term sustainability.  The number of elementary schools and the specific ones have not been determined.

A: The school is tentatively scheduled to open for the 2027-2028 school year.

A: The school will be built off Interstate 69, south of River Valley Christian Church.

A: Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025.

Impact on Students & Families

Q: When will the elementary schools redistrict?

A: Redistricting plans will be announced in the fall of the 2025-2026 school year. The goal is to balance class sizes and provide more transportation options for students.

A: Some adjustments will be made, but more students will have access to transportation services. Details will be shared as plans are finalized.

A: The elementary schools scheduled for closure will be announced in the fall of the 2025-2026 school year.

A: The district is committed to upgrading the schools that will remain open, ensuring all students have access to high-quality learning experiences and shared opportunities. One exciting upgrade that will be implemented in all the elementary schools is the addition of a STEAM innovation room, a dedicated space designed to encourage creativity and collaboration where students or individuals can explore and experiment with projects related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. More information on other improvements that will be made will be announced in the near future.

Financial & Operational Considerations

Q: Will this project increase taxes?

A: No, the project is using the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, which ensures tax-rate neutrality. Residents will not experience any tax increases.

A: Cost savings from the consolidation will allow the MSD to direct more resources toward teacher salaries and protect the district’s education fund, while also positioning the district to attract and increase student enrollment.
